Introductory Pamphlet For My Artist Colony...
First things first, you are awesome. We know that. You know that. We do not have time to remind you of that fact. If you don’t know it, learn it. Or get the fuck out.   The Rules   Vehicles exist for two reasons. Taking people places is the second most important. The most important function is “mobile concert venue.” When in a car, truck or bus (especially bus), you are expected to behave...

Seriously, this just happened.
My phone: I traded eyeliner for dark circles, salon hair cuts for pontails and braids, long showers for hairy legs, late nights for early morning, designer purses for diaper bags and I wouldn't change a thing! With Mother's day drawing near, lets see how many Mom's will forward this. Mom's don't care what we gave up and will continue to give up for our kids(: *~*~ashley~*~
Me: Wrong number, chief.
My phone: Oh sorry who is this *~*~ashley~*~
Me: It's Alex.
My phone: Ok where is cassandra *~*~ashley~*~
Me: I have no idea. Apparently she either got a new phone or got raptured. You know, the usual.
My phone: Ok sorry to bother you *~*~ashley~*~
Me: No worries. Good talk, Ashley! Stay in school! Hugs not drugs!
My phone: I dont do either. I am out of school *~*~ashley~*~
Me: Oh, sorry! Umm... keep up the good work! (is that more appropriate?)
My phone: yes *~*~ashley~*~
Me: Then keep on rocking in the free world!

It Takes a Village to Make Me Functional: Pretty...
On Monday, I start my new job. A few days ago, a friend messaged me to ask what, exactly, this new job is. I haven’t been able to figure out how to explain it. So, I’ll warn you, this will be rambly.  On Friday, I worked for an insurance subrogation company, moving data from client systems into the subro company’s database. It’s extraordinarily slow work, the type of thing that should really be...

It Takes a Village to Make Me Functional: Wiggly...
I’m starting a pretty insanely awesome new job on Monday, as well as making some changes to the way I write/create online. This week, I’m taking some time to give shout-outs to a few of the people/things that helped me get to a point where this opportunity turned into a reality. This is part two. A few years ago, for a reason I totally forgot, I went to Bob Saget’s Wikipedia entry. Once there, I...

I’m starting a pretty insanely awesome new job on Monday, as well as making some changes to the way I write/create online. This week, I’m taking some time to give shout-outs to a few of the people/things that helped me get to a point where this opportunity turned into a reality. This is part one. If you’re wired the way I am, being a Radio/TV/Film student at Indiana State University...

The Week Ahead.
April 5th starts something new for me.  My boring desk job in Muncie is morphing into a pretty exciting creative job in Muncie and Fishers, my checking account is turning into something a little less anemic, and it seems entirely plausible my RAZR is going to be upgraded to something that is used by people with grown-up jobs. And sitting a week away from this shift, it’s pretty much the most...

Production Night.
Driving back from South Bend this weekend, I passed the office of the Muncie Star-Press at around two in the morning. The entire building was dark, except for one floor, which seemed to be burning every fluorescent light it had. I know this was only because someone was doing cleaning, or because those were the lights they always leave on, or because the switch had somehow broken and no one could...

You wind up bored at work and remember you’re not as good at Scrabble as you think you are, you place the reason you had a Coke Zero phase, and you rediscover how quickly those college words used to fall away when something was really important. Anyway… not the point right now. The point is she’s smart, funny, nice and one of those just generally awesome people.

Revisiting The Wrestler
(Chances are good this post is going to be a little spoilery, if you haven’t seen the movie. Consider yourself warned.) The tragedy of Randy “The Ram” isn’t his fall from grace. It’s not the significant decrease in paychecks he received after transitioning from working major arenas in front of thousands of fans to a few hundred people in a bingo hall in South...

Things in My Pockets (9/1/2009 1:10 pm)
Keys to one Cassady Cooper Vera Bradley wallet, showing rapid signs of aging Presentation notes, written in the style of a band’s setlist Moleskin, containing a monologue for an otherwise unwritten film. Panera receipt for a small coffee and a bacon and spinach souffle. Approx. three dollars in quarters. Exactly two dollars in one dollar bills.

Making the Clackity Noise - Lipstick.
merlin: Maybe just try it. You don’t even have to show anyone. Make the clackity noise until a little story falls out. Just a little bit and just for a little while. Just until you notice one tiny, dumb, pointless story that the keyboard wanted you to remember. When historians look back on this period of existence (and I mean the fun historians, the ones who look at food and love and what...

Overly Dramatic Manifesto 2009
1. Ultimately, we are creative beings. Failure to create will leave us dead. 2. Through some diabolical means, society has allowed us to buy into the notion that choosing not to create is an option. It is not. A shark does not choose to stop swimming. The only thing that can pull it from that task is death itself. We must create with the same tenacity, as the stakes are just as high. 3. The...

Bullshit Zero.
Today I started, in earnest, two new projects. The first is by far the least interesting, the Alex Jonathan Brown Resume Carpet Bombing™ (Henceforth AJBRCB™). It’s a terribly complex process of sending my resume to absolutely anyone who might have a job I’m even a little interested in. Aside: HM+C, I’d really like to work for you. The carpet bombing is why I applied for the job with a Big Rig...

Hi. Hey there. How’s it going? Now, I hate to be this guy, and I know our relationship up to this point has been built upon trust. If someone leaves you an Honesty Box comment, you expect me to get you a notification ASAP. I get that, and I do what I can. It’s trust, dude. And I know part of trust is that I should assume you’re going to tell me if our relationship is going to...

What's Next?
Part of this whole “graduating thing” (assuming it actually happens, we’re still holding our breath) is taking time to figure out what comes next. For a lot of people I know, this has looked like a couple things. “Applying for jobs” and “applying for doctoral programs” have been some popular options. I, on the other hand, have decided to go for a third....
